Singled out

John Newton (“Amazing Grace”) was an honest pilgrim. Commenting on the mercy of God and reflecting on his vile way of life before Christ, he said…

“I see no reason why the Lord singled me out for mercy…unless it was to show that with him nothing is impossible.”

Lord, thank you for singling me out with your rich mercy. Underserved and unearned, yet received thanks to your work of opening my blind eyes that were once falsely bright with the pride that thought I could save myself.
