Today’s reading plan: Exodus 40; John 19; Proverbs 16; Philippians 3
Passages that I highlighted from each chapter…
“Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.” Exodus 40:36-38
“The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.” Proverbs 16:4
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9
“We may cast lots, but the Lord determines how they fall.” Proverbs 16:33
“Then Jesus said (at his sentencing), “you would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above.”” John 19:11
“Yes everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Philippians 3:8
“I press on to possess that perfection (knowing Jesus) for which Christ Jesus first possessed me…I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us…we are eagerly waiting for him to return…” Philippians 3:12, 14, 20
Does God speak through his word? Sure does.
Four chapters, spread out through the Scriptures, read on one day, by a weary pilgrim who has no idea what steps to take next, who is struggling to know what God is up to through the circumstances at hand…
He speaks.
God is leading.
Following means waiting. (Exodus 40)
– – –
God is using all things.
Fulfilling his plans even through evil people.
My plans might be thrown out the window.
But God’s plans always come to pass.
God is sovereign.
Even in how the dice rolls. (Proverbs 16)
– – –
Authority came from above.
To sentenced Jesus.
To crucify him.
To kill him even. (John 19)
– – –
Be still, throw off everything.
Pursue one thing.
Know Jesus.
Know him deeper.
It all comes back to that…
The priceless value of knowing our Savior,
As we wait for him to return. (Philippians 3)
Thank you Lord for speaking, even on dark, stormy trails as we wait on you!
